Da
Vinci’s Machines: Air Screw
发现达文西之机器篇:单螺旋桨
Da Vinci
was an Italian Renaissance polymath. He played several roles in
his life such as painter, sculptor, architect, musician, scientist, mathematician,
engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. Genius
is the best word can be used in described Da Vinci. He contributed a lot to
people. Some of the scientists and inventors are doing research based on his manuscript.
Do you
know that why helicopter can fly? The idea was from Da Vinci. In his mind, he
always thinks that one day people can fly like the bird. 1480, he sketched air
screw and try to make it fly. He failed to make it. In 1910, his sketch was
read by a young man. The man did research on it. Finally he managed to create
the air screw of the helicopter.
Based on the manuscript
of Da Vinci, he stated that the material for making the wings must be tough and
tensile and there will be no hole. In short, he was concerned about the types
of materials which being used.
There is a group of
experts did study on it. They try to make the air screw can be functioning via
the new technology and some lighter material in making the pillar and the wing.
There are six people involved in this mission. They are Terry Sandin, Dr
Jonathan Pevsner, Flash Hopkins, Valek Sykes, Bill Duggan and Juan. Terry is a mechanical
engineer who is the expert of electronic and small robot. Dr Jonathan is
Leonardo expert, Flash is a builder, Valek is special effects expert, Bill is a
carpenter and Juan is ultralight expert.
In short, Da Vinci was a
great people.
Based on my own
understanding, I think the problem is come from the design of the wing and the
size of the pillar. I think the numbers of the wings should be reduced. So the
mass of the wings can be reduced. That is just my own point of view.
Here are some of the
pictures of my own air screw.
